This article explains how to set up Guided Access on Apple devices used as handsets. Guided Access ensures the handset remains locked to the BackHug app for customer use.
⚠️ this guide only applies to those using Apple devices as handsets
What is Guided Access and why do we use it?
Guided Access is a helpful iPhone/iPad feature that locks the device to show only the BackHug app. This means customers can't accidentally close the app, change settings, or access other features on the device. Think of it like a focus mode - it keeps the device dedicated to just what matters!
This is particularly useful for BackHug locations because:
- It prevents customers from accidentally closing the app
- Keeps the device focused only on BackHug sessions
- Protects your device while it's being used by multiple people
- Creates a simpler, more straightforward experience for users
How to set up Guided Access:
1. Go to Settings > Accessibility and enable Guided Access
2. Select Passcode Settings and create a Guided Access Passcode
3. Optionally, enable Face ID/Touch ID for ending sessions
Starting Guided Access:
1. Open the BackHug User app
2. Triple-click the side button (iPhone X or later) or Home button (iPhone 8 or earlier)
3. Tap Guided Access, then START
Ending Guided Access:
- Triple-click the side/home button and enter your passcode
- Or use Face ID/Touch ID if enabled, then tap END
Important Notes:
- Keep the passcode secure and share only with authorised staff
- Ensure the handset remains charged and connected to power whenever possible
- Test the setup before making it available to customers
